Mark Clark

Clark, Mark 2

Mark Clark, 72, of Waco, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

Funeral Service: 11am Monday June 24 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with a Visitation one hour prior with burial to follow at Rosemound Cemetery.

Mark was born in Indianola, Mississippi on October 28, 1951 as the third child and only son of Nellie and Ezra Clark.  He grew up in Indianola, graduating from high school there, and attending nearby colleges.  After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Delta State University, he went out of state, to Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, to get his master’s. That is also where he met Joy Tanner, who would become his wife after they both graduated in 1978.

They moved around Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi during the first few years of their marriage.  During those years they wanted to become parents but learned that would not be happening in the natural way.  However, that didn’t bother them too much, as they didn’t insist on having a biological relationship anyway.  They were just happy to be parents, regardless who bore the children, so they adopted two little boys.

They eventually moved to Waco, where Mark went to work for the probation department, where he worked for 27 years before finally retiring.  Since then he worked at various things he enjoyed especially attending auctions, first in person and later online.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Freda Gray, and Shirley Russell.

Those left to mourn his passing include his wife Joy, sons Daniel (Erica), Matthew (Shelley); grandchildren, Jazmine, Daniel Jr., Ja’Naiyah, Jose, Parker, Halley, Kenleigh, and Colton, as well as sister Elizabeth (Ben) Ervin, 2 nephews and 3 nieces.
