Mary Lou Berig

Mary Lou Berig, 66, lost her battle with cancer and went home to be with her Heavenly Father and her Savior on January 5, 2017, surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Whitney, Texas.
Mary Lou was born in Mesa, Arizona on August 16, 1950 in a one room shack with an outhouse to Frank and Juanita Cordell Mathena. As a child, her family travelled and moved a lot because her father worked on dairy farms. Mary Lou married the love of her life, Bill Berig, on July 27,2006. Together they made a home in LaSalle, Colorado. She enjoyed helping her husband on the farm and spending time with her family. Mary Lou was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mary Lou will be deeply missed; she was a wonderful mother, friend and just all around good person. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Juanita Mathena, her husband, Bill Berig and her father-in-law, Manuel Berig.
Mary Lou leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Becky Straten and her husband Rick; three brothers, Larry Mathena and his wife Carol, Mike Mathena and his wife Mary Jane and Robert Mathena and his wife Diane; two grandsons, Rex Koolstra and his wife Caitlain and Cole Straten; along with a host of other loving family members and friends.
