Melva Jo Holland, age 78, passed away June 21, 2023.

Visitation: 4 – 8pm Friday, June 30 at Lake Shore Funeral Home

Melva Jo Holland was born Melva Jo Krohn February 8, 1945. She was the second daughter of Magdalena (Maggie) Krohn. She grew up in Waco and attended LaVega High School.

Later in life, Jo proudly completed her associate degree. She worked for several manufacturing companies and non-profit organizations throughout her career.

Jo married Robert Holland in 1965, and relocated to Chicago, IL; where she raised her family of two sons, Kevin, and Kristopher; and a daughter, Jodi. After celebrating 58 years of marriage, all of them spent living in IL; Jo still considered Texas her home. She traveled back as often as possible to visit her family and friends there.

Jo was an avid reader and enjoyed crochet. When her children were young, she attended all their sporting events, and eventually became a Girl Scout leader and coached her daughter’s softball team. Once her grandchildren were born, she attended as many of their events as she could.

Jo is preceded in death by her mother, Magdalena Krohn, and her sister, Dorothy Frazier.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 58 years; Robert; children, Kevin (Aimee), Kristopher (Rita) and Jodi (Michael) Golm; grandchildren, Nicholas and Stephen Holland, Trevor and Kevin Hanna, and Vincent and Madelyn Golm; sister, Nelda Wheeler; brother, Harvey Krohn, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Farrah Fawcett Foundation (https://thefarrahfawcettfoundation.org)

Condolence Messages

  1. Kousal Virginia

My deepest condolences go out to the family of Melva Jo Holland. Jo has been my best friend for 71 years, and we are
more like sisters than friends. As we aged, our friendship became more and more special as the years past. My daughters, Stefanie Jones and Ashley Cowley, refer to her as Mama Jo. We are heartbroken to have lost such a wonderful lady.

  2. To Uncle Bob, Kevin, Kris, & Jodi, along with your families, our deepest condolences. May you find comfort and peace during this difficult time.
I am Remembering With You…the life of someone so special and loved by so many.
Heartfelt thoughts and prayers reach out to you in this difficult time.

  3. My condolences to the family. I worked with Jo at Polyscience. We always had fun feeding off each other to get through the workday. I miss those days, even when I parted the company we reconnected many years later. I wish we had gotten together but just wanted to say what a great woman she is. 💕
Stacey sunshine as she used to call me.
