Melvin Cook, 91 of Waco, passed away Friday, October 17, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Private military graveside services will be held at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with the Reverend J. Melvin was born April 2, 1917 in Murchison, TX to John Edd and Mattie Frances (Tickle) Cook. He served with the U.S. Army from August 7, 1939 to July 28, 1941. He was a butcher by trade and was a member of Groesbeck Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Mattie Cook; brother, Thurman Cook; sister, Beatrice Cook; and granddaughter, Brandi Haverkamp.
Survivors include wife, Thelma Cook of Waco; son, Melvin C. (Sonny) Cook and wife, Ola of Hillsboro; daughter, Brenda Haverkamp and husband, John of Riesel; son, Larry Cook of Waco; daughter, Donna Blansit and husband, Kenny of Axtell; 7 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.
