Mrs. Irene Jones Lewis

Mrs. Irene Lewis, 91, a resident of Waco, TX, was born in Brookshire, TX October 17, 1932 to Booker T. and Lorene Jones.  She went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, December 7, 2023.

Visitation: 6 – 8PM Wednesday, December 13 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 11AM Friday, December 15 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church 1335 Waller Ave, Brookshire, TX 77423. Burial will follow to Houston Memorial Gardens 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77851.

Irene accepted Christ at an early age, at Little Zion Baptist Church, in Brookshire, TX, which was a requirement of her grandmother, Georgia Jones.  She attended grade school and graduated in Brookshire, TX.  During her early adult life, she went on to attend some college and worked in the medical and culinary fields.  She loved cooking and greatly appreciated flowers and gardens.

Irene united in marriage with L.C. Lewis, the love of her life.  During their 55 years of marriage, they had and raised three daughters, Jean, Lisa Colleen and Henri Lynett.  With L.C. by her side, they became and prospered as business owners and pillars of the Brookshire community for over 40 years.  They built and successfully ran the Grand Prix Night Club, a beverage store, and owned property throughout Waller and Harris Counties. Together, they worked diligently to support their community with resources and great food.

Irene rededicated her life to Christ, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, in Brookshire, TX, under the leadership of Rev. Lee Jones, Sr.  While serving at St. Paul, she served in many capacities centered around cooking and serving.   She served dutifully, until her and L.C. retired to Waco, TX.  Upon their relocation to Waco, she became a member of Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. James London and worked alongside her husband upon his call to the ministry.  She later became a well-loved member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Jack Watson.  She remained a dutiful member and resource until her health failed.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty-five years, Rev.  L.C. Lewis; parents, Booker T. and Lorene Jones; sister, Lela Mae “Gem” Isom (Nathaniel); brothers, William “Dee” Jones” (Emma), Charles “Ray” Jones (Jeannie), Maurice “Curley” Jones (Lula), George “Doc” Jones (Louise), Clifford Jones (Jerri), and Booker T. “June” Jones (Ella).

Irene is survived by her devoted three daughters, Jean Corsey and Lisa Ward (Thomas Sr.) both of Waco, TX, and Henri Lewis, of Houston, TX; caring grandchildren, Michelle Wright (William) of Oxen Hill, MD, Raychele Broussard of Waco, TX, Thomas Taylor of St. Paul, MN, Thomas Ward, Jr of Houston, TX., Bria Ward and Lauren Ward both of Waco, TX; joyful great grandchildren, Miana Wright, Joshua Wright, and Christopher Wright all of Oxen Hill, MD, Dante Taylor of St. Paul, MN, and Christian Ward of Waco, TX; loving special nieces, Lillie Marie Lewis, Pamela Jackson, and Lori Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
