Refugio “Cuco” Martinez, age 83, of Waco, TX, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 2, 1940, in La Union, New Mexico to Bonifacio “José” Martinez and Maria “Ramona” Martinez (Molina). He touched the lives of many with his resilience, quick wit, and unwavering determination.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Manuela; his children Sandra, Fernando (Donna), Diana (Scott), Toni, and Charles “Mark” (Erin); and his siblings Salvador “Chava” (Laura) and Miguel “Mike”. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor his legacy of love and compassion.
Throughout his life, Cuco epitomized devotion, demonstrating unwavering commitment to his family and loved ones. He was a devoted husband to Manuela Martinez, with whom he shared nearly 66 years of marriage filled with love and cherished memories. Together, they weathered life’s challenges and celebrated its joys, building a strong legacy of love and support for their family.
Although Cuco wasn’t a man of many words, there was never a question of how much he loved his family. He treasured every moment spent with them, whether fishing alongside his grandchildren or pitching in with household repairs. Nothing brought him greater joy than being surrounded by his loved ones.
May his soul rest in peace, comforted by the knowledge that he was deeply cherished.
