Reta Sims Lain, 71, a Waco area AVON representative for 45 years, passed away Saturday, May. 8, 2010 surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with diabetes and renal failure. Funeral services will be 10AM Wednesday, May 12th at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church with Dr. David Shuttlesworth and Pastor Amos Humphreys officiating. Burial will follow in Bosqueville Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8PM Tuesday, May 11th at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.
Reta was born July 13, 1938 in Blum, TX to Wayland and Mozelle Hutson Sims. Reta attended schools in Blum, Rio Vista and Fort Worth. Reta married Douglas (D.C.) Lain on May 4, 1956 in Cleburne, Texas. They celebrated their "54th" anniversary a few days ago. They moved to Waco in 1963 and became members of Park Lake Drive Baptist Church, where she led the "Busy Beavers" program, a ministry with the nursing homes in Waco for many years. She was known as the "Ding-Dong Avon Lady" and her blue jeep was known all around Waco. She has received many awards in her 45 years of selling Avon.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She leaves us with our hearts heavy and our souls touched by her loving and caring will towards others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and in-laws, Leon and Charlie Lain.
Those left behind to cherish her memory is her loving husband Douglas Lain; her only son, Roger and his wife Linda of Waco; her loving grandchildren, Lindsay Lain Harkins, Roger Lain, Jr. and Austin Lorenzen; two great-granddaughters, Alaina Wilson and Zoey Harkins; two brothers and two sisters all from Fort Worth, Sherrie West and husband Ray, Darlene Mathis and husband Charlie, Wendell Sims, and Charles Sims and his wife Eileen of Acton; six nephews, Brian, Casey, Corey, Waylond, Jerod, and Dylan; one niece, Rachelle; eight great nephews and nieces; last surviving uncle, Billy Hutson and his wife Kay of Granbury; brother-in-law, N. L. Lain and his children of Cleburne; Lain nephews, Maurice Land of Mansfield, Ronnie Land of Dallas, and Mike Vinson of Tyler; and many cousins and friends along with Regina and Mark Lorenzen of Katy, TX.
Pallbearers will be Wendell Sims, Charles Sims, Ray West, Charlie Mathis, Brian West, and Jarod Sims.
Honorary Pallbearers are the deacons of Park Lake Drive Baptist Church, Waylond Sims, Casey and Corey Mathis, and Dylan Sims
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Park Lake Drive Baptist Church "Busy Beavers" Program.
Special thanks to Deanna Holyfield and all the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Hillcrest Hospital for their loving care, and also the doctors and nurses of Fresenius Medical Care.

We first met Rita when we joined Park lake. We came to know her better when we got involved with "BUSY BEVERS". She worked so hard at this that was hard to believe. we were privelieged to know her. She also invited us several times to join with 42 which is what she enjoyed

I had the privilege of caring for Mrs. Lain at Brazos Kidney for over a year. She was a very sweet and thoughtful lady whom brought joy to the clinic. Her smile will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family through this tough time.
