Stephen Wayne Herbert, 83, of China Spring, passed away on July 12, 2021 after a short but valiant battle with cancer.
Steve was born on August 19, 1937 to Robert and Louise Herbert in Nacogdoches, Texas. After graduating from Waco High School, he went on to graduate from Baylor University.

Steve was a master craftsman in wood working and made countless pieces of furniture and other special projects, many times as a donation to a worthy cause. If he wasn’t in the house, he could be found working in his woodshop on his latest creation. He was an active member of China Spring United Methodist Church and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of his church family. Steve served on the China Spring ISD Education Foundation and was active with the China Spring Tabernacle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert Herbert. Peggy, Debbie, Mike & Families,
We are sorry for your great loss. Thinking of you now and in the days ahead.
Such a precious man and someone I, and my family have LOVED for many years along with the whole Herbert Family.
As the China Spring United Methodist Church secretary, Steve created and made many pieces for me created from his God given working working ability. I have always cherished them and do even more so now. My family’s thoughts and prayers are with you all. Heaven is truly blessed to have such a wonderful servant of God in its presence.

The Herbert family lost a kind, gentle and brave member of its family. He was proud of his family and especially proud of Grandson Hunter’s recent graduation and commissioning at the Air Force Academy. One of his last gesture was a salute to him. A life well lived. He and Peggy had 61 wonderful years of marriage.

Peggy, Debbie, Mike and Family,
I am very sorry and saddened to hear about Steve. Steve will be missed. He was a fine man, very friendly and I always enjoyed talking to him. My parents, Buddy and Ruth really liked Steve. For many years, I remember his artisan woodwork to improve antique furniture that was sold in the China Spring United Methodist Church bazaars. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Ray Roberts
