Steve Randall Pickens Sr., 60, of Chalk Bluff, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 14, 2014. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, March 19th, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Waco, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.
Steve was born on January 26, 1954 in Waco to Benjamin F. and Nancy (Light) Pickens. On January 29, 1972, he married Lana Hutchins, and together they shared 42 years. Steve worked with his dad at Pickens Auto Ranch- the first “point and pull” wrecking yard. Always in the salvage business, Steve traveled throughout the country in search of the perfect junk. When not salvaging, he enjoyed going to auctions, driving through the country, and fishing- but only if the fish were biting (though many a rod ended up in the water!). He loved his family, friends, and animals, and he was always willing to help out anyone in need. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Lana Pickens of Chalk Bluff; mother, Nancy Pickens of Elm Mott; son, Steve Randall Pickens, Jr. of Chalk Bluff; two grandsons, Nathan Pickens of China Spring, and Kelby Sultemeier of Chalk Bluff; two granddaughters, Breanna Pickens of Chalk Bluff and Taylor Pickens of China Spring; four sisters, Brenda Berger and husband, Charlie, of Lorena, Darlene Iglehart and husband, Rick, of Chalk Bluff, Judy Pickens of Chalk Bluff, and Penny Anderson and husband, David, of China Spring; as well as many other dear family members and friends.

Sorry to hear this, we will keep all in our prayers.
So hard to believe and way too young. Steve was a great father to Lil Steve as we grew up in the Chalk Bluff/Elm Mott area. I spent many long days and nights over there as Steve Jr and I twisted wrenches on our VW Beetles. Big Steve always had info to help us or even his hands. The wrecking yards never had VW parts or the service that Steve Sr had and buying parts from him became natural and easy. This was all some 25 years back and feels like yesterday.
May Steve run the big wrecking yard in Heaven and watch over us all in our daily lives. Prayers to the entire family and all friends during this tough time.
I grew up behind the salvage yard got to know the family when I was a child.
My prayers go out to the family. God bless you all.
