Wanda Coleman, 82, of Waco, passed away January 8, 2009 at a local nursing center. Graveside services will be 2PM Saturday, January 10th at Oakwood Cemetery. Lake Shore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Wanda was born January 9, 1926 in Waco to Harold H. and Gladys (Holley) Wilkins. She graduated from LaVega High School and attended 4-C Business College. She worked at the Waco VA Hospital, a job she really loved. She was a survivor of the 1953 Waco tornado- having been just a city block from the center when it hit. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling on several leagues and participated in a number of state tournaments. Wanda always began her mornings with coffee and the crossword puzzle. She was an avid Texas Ranger fan and she also liked watching The Mavericks and golf on T.V.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold H. Wilkins, Jr.
Survivors include daughters, Kathy Schwer and husband, Geof of Woodway, Holly Knecht and husband, Keith of Little River; grandchildren, Missy Hinson and husband, Joe of Corinth, and Wendy Knecht of Austin, and Michael Schwer of Waco; great grandson, Seth Hinson of Corinth; and six granddogs.

My sister Kathy & I will miss our mom very much. We loved her dearly. My mom treated her sons-in-law like her own sons !.. My mom’s name became "Gammy" after her 1st grandchild was born & everyone always called her that sweet name. Few people would call her by her given name.. She was GAMMY.. the one & only ! .. She loved her grandkids & great grandson very much & would do anything for them !.. She even had granddogs & great granddogs !..She loved spoiling the dogs with vanilla ice cream.. My mom outlived all her friends & I know if there is poker or bingo in heaven, my mom will be there with her friends having a GREAT time !.. We miss you mom & the pain of losing you is still fresh in our hearts.. Tell grandmama & auntie hello as I know they have welcomed you with open arms ..
