Willis Janice Moore, 96 of Waco passed way on Saturday, November 19, 2016.
Visitation: Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.
Graveside Service: Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 10:30AM at Waco Memorial Park, where Willis will be laid to rest next to her husband, Richard Moore.
Willis was born September 15, 1920 in Wolf Point, Montana, where she attended local schools. After high school, she moved to Billings, Montana, and enrolled in cosmetology school. She lived there for five years before moving to Fresno, California, to be near her cousin, who was stationed there during World War II.
Willis became a receptionist and office manager for an ophthalmologist and later held the same position for an insurance firm. On November 4, 1951, she married Richard K. Moore and became a homemaker, helping to raise three sons. Willis became active in the Jayceettes, women’s auxiliary of the Junior Chamber, helping raise money for a new hospital, and in the Children’s Home Society.
Willis and Richard moved to McGregor, Texas in 1958 when he was appointed Director of Public Relations for Rocketdyne’s new Solid Rocket Division. During the following years, she continued raising her family, playing golf, and pursuing her life-long passion for Bridge, earning some 50 Master Points from the American Contract Bridge League.
The Family returned to Los Angeles in 1965 when her husband was appointed Director of Public Relations for Dart Industries, Inc.., a major consumer products company. Willis continued as a homemaker until the youngest son left for college. She enrolled in school and became a travel agent, while also helping plan extensive travel to over forty countries and some dozen ocean cruises for herself and Richard.
Willis was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Richard K. Moore; her oldest son, Richard Charles Moore.
Willis leaves behind to cherish her memory her two sons, Willis Guy “Bill” Moore of Sacramento and James Walter Moore and his wife Dianne of Waco; grandchildren, Lauren Moore of Waco, Elisha and Jeremy Moore of Austin.
